how to create a natural patina. create with miss mustard seed's milk paint. today i thought i would show how i do when i want a piece of furniture should look very worn out with only one color. the color i have chosen is miss mustard seed's milk paint, french enamel
a really lovely, rather sharp blue color. it's pretty obvious that i like blue. i'll probably start using a little more different colors to make my videos a little more varying, but
i just think that this piece should be blue. what i will do now, because it is already scraped, grinded and pure wood, i need no bonding agent in the paint. so i have mixed up just 6 tablespoons of powder and 6 tablespoons lukewarm water. i have let color stand
for a moment. now then, for it to be worn, naturally worn, it always is mainly in the corners, and aound fittings, you always touch around handles and fittings, therefore you don't need to put as much paint in those areas i will let the areas around the fittings be
pretty much unpainted. if i paint a lot around the fittings i will have to grind a lot anyway, therefore, i usually don't paint that much where i want it to look well worn. in areas that it's not going to be as worn is on the inside of the frames and so. along with these edges here
it usually not gets that worn. so here i can paint on pretty much color. and it will be the same thing along with this edge here. here is a list that goes out, so the inside of that it will not be as worn as the rest either,
so there i can also put a lot of paint. around the keyhole and the seizures hinges and so, it is, around here i want to still make it look like it has been completely painted in blue before. then it is actually quite important
to get into little, little color right on the edge of this. for there is also such a place very rarely is completely void of color. no matter how much the furniture has worn.
i'm pretty careful ... for it not to be completely void of color, and for it to look like a little more natural wear, i take (when the brush is fairly dry) and draws up so it looks like leftover paint. the first mistake people usually do is that doing much grinding at the top
on the furniture. but, if you google on very worn furniture, it is often at the bottom that it is most worn. imagine that one has, in 150 years, passed and kicked against, and has moved it,
then it is indeed rare that you you grabs on top of the furniture, here. it is at the bottom. the furniture is usually very worn. therefore, i paint more covering on top.
and so do i paint thinner below. on the top shelf now, edges and such are pretty easy to grind, therefore i will put on quite a lot of color here. because then it will look more natural after i grinded. i paint as well as a frame around. there. now, the rest of the top disc,
i'll take a little color and press out of the brush, so that the brush is fairly dry. and i pull easily over. this is known to dry brush. now i have laid the foundation for this cabinet. it is very thin with color where i want very much friction, and so i put a little
more color where there not shall be equally worn. now i'll just grind in all the corners and little everywhere. the important thing now is that you should not do it evenly. for example, two cabinet doors should not be the same.
so you should never think too much about it and you should not try to make it perfect. you must not grind in one direction only. you can grind little in every direction. and... grind ...! as a final step on this piece now, i have chosen miss mustard seed's clear wax.
